Curriculum

Our three bright, spacious nursery classrooms and dedicated outdoor area offer children a flexible space in which to play, explore, build, move, make believe and have fun! All areas are well equipped with accessible resources and each area has its own quiet book corner.

We implement the Early Years Foundation Stage. We cover all seven areas of learning:- Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Expressive Arts and Design through our exciting and imaginative topics.

Early Phonics is developed using the Letters and Sounds Teaching Programme and we use the BLAST Speech and Language materials to promote communication skills. Books are everywhere and in addition to regular story telling sessions, children are encouraged to enjoy books independently.

In the nursery, we aim to create an environment that supports mathematical development. Counting and number recognition, problem solving, measures and shape and space are taught through practical activities, which are often linked to topic work. The development of mathematical language is seen as vital as is the need to build children’s confidence and competence in applying their developing mathematical skills.

We have regular music sessions and use the Sticky Kids resources for Music and Movement. We provide imaginative role-play areas that are geared to children’s current interests. A wide range of art and craft activities are organised and creative resources are always available for children to make their own choices from.

Children are naturally active, and in addition to all the physical activities which form part of our ongoing provision (bikes, climbing equipment, bats and balls, fine motor activities etc.), we also offer twice weekly PE sessions which may take place in the school gym or outside.
