Fencing at Grittleton

Did you know that in the age of chivalry, dueling was favoured as a method of settling matters of honour, because of its grace & simplicity. These remain the most attractive aspects of the sport today.

Fencing’s unique mix of physical and intellectual stimulation can burn approximately 400 calories per hour, making it great for all-round fitness, muscle toning, building core strength, coordination and balance. Since you need to make lightning-fast decisions, it is also excellent for concentration and focus.

Fencing is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK; and here at Grittleton House School we offer fencing as an after school activity during our daily enrichment hour.

Our fencing coach, Neil Bromley, has been fencing for over 30 years and is a member of both The British Academy of Fencing and British Fencing.  He teaches beginners through to county and regional champions together with members of Tomorrow’s Achievers – England Fencing’s Development Programme. With students ranked in the GB top 10 for their age group, all Grittleton House School fencers can be challenged and developed to maximise their potential in this ultimate combat sport.

We are very proud to announce that on Sunday, Charles, a year 3 pupil, will be represented Grittleton House School at the Great Britain U10 National Foil Championships.
